Designing pages

Under “Sources” you pick one or more galleries. Their photos appear in the strip along the bottom, in the order they were TAKEN, not the order of the gallery. That is the order the day happened in, and so the order a book tells it in.

Photos with no capture time go to the end. From the strip you drag a photo into a frame.

“Fill automatically” spreads every photo in the strip across spreads and adds the ones it needs. It overwrites what is already placed, and it asks first.

What comes out is a proposal, not a finished book. Every frame in it can be touched.

Top right you find twelve arrangements from one to six photos, drawn as little pictures rather than named. Switching keeps your photos as far as they fit the new arrangement.

Text boxes always survive a switch: they belong to no arrangement.

One click selects a frame, a second one drags it. The eight handles change its size. While you drag, the frame snaps to the page edges, the centre and its neighbours' edges; a thin line shows what it caught.

Arrow keys nudge by a tenth of a percent, with Shift by a whole one. Delete removes the selection, Esc clears it.

Buttons “Frame” and “Text” put new elements on the page. A text box takes a typeface, size, colour and alignment; the ten typefaces are the ones from the snap-ins.

A photo always fills its frame. Which part shows is up to “Crop”: dragging moves the photo inside the frame, the wheel or the slider zooms.

A crop can never show an empty corner, not even when you reshape the frame afterwards.

When a photo falls below 150 dpi for its area, the number appears in the frame. Nothing is blocked: the photo may still be the right one, it will just print softer.

Zooming in uses fewer pixels for the same area. The number takes that into account.
