What a Snap-in is

A Snap-in shows a selection of your photos right on your own website: in your portfolio, on a landing page or inside a blog post. You paste two lines of code and decide in aftersnap which photos, which layout and which look appear.

A client gallery delivers photos to the people in them. A Snap-in shows a selection of your work on your own website: in your portfolio, on a landing page, inside a blog post. No access code, no downloads, no second photo library to maintain.

The photos stay with us. Swap one out or reorder them, and the other website follows without you touching it.

Snap-ins New Snap-in

Create one under “Snap-ins”. All it needs is a name, and that name only ever appears in your own overview.

Photos get in two ways: upload them as you would to a gallery, or take them over from a gallery you already have. Taking them over makes copies. Delete that gallery later and the Snap-in stays.

For these photos we keep only the web version, no original. A Snap-in therefore uses a fraction of the storage a gallery of the same size uses.

  1. Click “New Snap-in” and give it a name.
  2. Upload images, or take them over with “Take photos from a gallery”.
  3. Drag them into the order you want.

The same photo a second time #

Upload a file that is already in the snap-in and aftersnap asks once for the whole batch: skip, replace, or keep as a copy. Replacing keeps the position in the grid and the alt text; copies get a suffix.

Recognition works by filename. Photos that went into a snap-in before 26 August 2025 cannot be recognised: a snap-in carries no original, and back then the name was discarded with it.

The cover in the overview #

Each card in the snap-in overview carries one photo. Left alone it is the first one; the star on a photo picks another. One click is enough, a second on the same star releases the choice again.

It only applies to the overview. Nothing changes in the embed on your website: there all photos stand in their order, and singling one out would undercut the arrangement you chose.

Order and alt text #

Set the order by dragging. Every photo takes an alt text: one sentence describing what is in it. Screen readers read it out and search engines use it. It saves as you type.

Check the result

Click into the alt text field of an image and type. The text is saved as you type; there is deliberately no save button.
